If you want to watch TF1 abroad you will soon notice that there are some problems occurring. Normally you will simply be shown a black video screen just waiting to start, but it will never really start at all. To watch TF1 from abroad you need to make the Internet and whatever website you visit (in this case the website of TF1) believe that you are located in France. You need to make them believe that you are located in France because they have a regulation making their online content only available to people in France.
To make TF1 believe that you are located in France you will need to make it look like your computer is in France, and this can be done by connecting your computer to a computer in France. Thus there will be a tunnel between your computer and the computer in France, and after the connection has been made it will look like all your Internet activity will originate from France. The result is therefore that all content earlier blocked will turn open, and then you will be able to watch TF1 and other great content online easily. What I just described here is what most people would call a VPN connection.
